Feature Summary

The evidence for grape seed’s health benefits continues to mount. Clinical studies on antioxidant-rich grape seed extract are compelling. Grape seed extract can improve our cardiovascular system, lower blood pressure, help varicose veins, improve night vision, and may even delay or prevent the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Grape seed extract is chock full of antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals before they do damage. Grape seed’s actives also strengthen collagen, our most abundant protein, thereby helping the structural integrity of the skin, blood vessels, and connective tissue.

Non-GMO grape seed from is easy on the pocketbook while delivering powerful nutritional benefits. Extra Strength Grape Seed guarantees a minimum of 80% proanthocyanidins. Research in Brief

Alzheimer’s disease is a feared but all too common form of dementia. Could grape seed extract delay its onset or prevent its progression? Two recent animal studies show very promising results. A study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease showed that mice bred genetically to develop Alzheimer’s had dramatically lower levels of a specific form of??-amyloid (A??) peptide, a substance implicated in the promotion of Alzheimer’s disease, after ingesting grape seed extract.

According to lead researcher, Dr. Giulio Pasinetti: “This is the first study to evaluate the ability of grape-derived polyphenols to prevent the generation of a specific form of ß-amyloid (Aß) peptide, a substance in the brain long known to cause the neurotoxicity associated with Alzheimer disease.” The results “strongly suggest that GSPE (grape seed polyphenolic extract) should be further tested as a potential prevention and/or therapy for Alzheimer’s disease.” (The Mount Sinai Hospital, 2011) This adds to a previous 2008 study which showed that mice treated with grape seed extract had significantly reduced Alzheimer’s disease-type cognitive deterioration compared to control mice, due to the prevention of amyloid formation.
