PGX® (PolyGlycopleX®) is a novel complex of plant-based dietary fibres that helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. Poor eating habits and other factors can cause blood sugar levels to spike and plummet, creating hunger and causing long-term problems with blood sugar regulation. This can lead to serious health problems.
When taken before a meal, PGX absorbs water and expands, increasing the viscosity (thickness) of food in the digestive tract. This slows absorption of carbohydrates and effectively lowers the glycemic index of the food. PGX smoothes out the blood sugar roller coaster so you feel full longer and can avoid food cravings, between-meal snacking, and weight gain. Mulberry leaves are traditionally used to prevent and treat diabetes. Mulberry extract helps diminish after-meal spikes in blood sugar by blocking the action of certain enzymes.
Diabetex PGX from webber naturals® combines the benefits of PGX and mulberry extract to stabilize blood sugar levels and promote healthy weight loss, safely and naturally.
Research in Brief
PGX smoothes out spikes in blood sugar after a meal. In a study of healthy men and women, PGX reduced the blood glucose response by 14% for yogurt, 25% for frozen turkey dinner, and 45% for rice (Jenkins et al., 2010). By slowing digestion, and creating a feeling of satiety (fullness), PGX reduces appetite. A study of women in a 1000 calorie/day diet program found that those receiving 5 g of PGX before meals had greater feelings of satiety and lower hunger scores than those receiving placebo (440 versus 375) (Kaciniket al., 2011). Using PGX also led to a reduction of 19% in total cholesterol and 26% in LDL (“bad”) cholesterol (Lyon et al., 2010).
A clinical trial involving type 2 diabetes patients found that those receiving mulberry had a 27% decrease in fasting blood glucose level, while those receiving glyburide (a diabetes drug) saw only marginal improvement (Andallu et al., 2001).
